Flu Symptoms

Flu Symptoms
An influenza infection is nothing to take lightly. If one starts presenting Flu Symptoms, it's better to go home for the day than to risk spreading the virus to workers or schoolmates. Anyone who's had the flu before will very much appreciate the courtesy. After the initial onset, flu symptoms tend to worsen quickly. Expect a lot of time spent in restless sleep, a high fever, trouble eating and all-over pain; prepare accordingly. If Flu Symptoms start to manifest, it's best to let someone know right away, especially if one lives alone.

The first Flu Symptoms are usually nausea and a vague feeling of "coming down" with something. Generally, vomiting, fever and diarrhea can be counted upon to manifest themselves very quickly. These conditions are serious. Combined with the amount of water the body is losing, the fever can quickly lead to dehydration. These flu symptoms should be immediately combated with fluid intake. Water is best, of course, and fruit juices can provide a healthy energy boost to the body. Avoid caffeine and alcohol, to be certain.

Among the most dreaded Flu Symptoms is the all-over cramping, muscle aches and stiffness it causes. This is best combated by simply taking it easy. When the infection is underway, the body dedicates huge amounts of energy toward fighting it off. This results in exhaustion and one should take advantage of the ability to sleep for a few hours, or even minutes, at any opportunity. Sleeping not only speeds healing, it offers some relief from the experience.

Staying warm is imperative. In the past, when flu took many lives, the culprit was oftentimes a lack of heating. Those with the flu need to stay warm so that their bodies aren't further taxed. Cold sweats are common and fevers may take a while to break. Keep bedding clean and fresh and change clothes as needed.

If Flu Symptoms seem to be getting worse and no improvement is seen, a doctor should be called. Flu symptoms can exacerbate the symptoms of other disorders and a weakened immune system means that other infections may take advantage of the opportunity. Especially if the victim is very old or very young, one should keep in regular contact with a doctor. The symptoms of a bad cold are oftentimes confused with those of flu but, as anyone who has ever experienced influenza can attest, Flu Symptoms are serious, long-lasting and make normal functioning nearly impossible.
